It's not a consistent noise like traffic that will blend into the background. It's also not like a lawn mower that goes on for a few hours during the day, it's all night. Just because I can sometimes hear trains doesn't mean I want extra added noise. IMO the fact they've had to suffer worse sounds isn't really a great justification.
